Photo Shoot - Miss Miller.

Within our overall music video package we aim to create a 6-sided digipak to package the CD and a magazine advert to promote the album. Within this digipak and magazine advert we plan to include a variety of images of the artist, which will predominately be simple images of just the artists shoulders and head. We plan to use these images to appeal to out target audience within the magazine advert and keep them interested and absorbed within our digipak. We also need to take conventional images which will allow the audience to recognise the genre, which the content belongs to, which is dance. To achieve this we will use conventional clothing and colouring. Taking a variety of images is key within this process as we have to chose a image which will be the most in appealing to our target audience within our advert and therefore to achieve this we will need to take a variety of pictures to discover which is the most appropriate and successful within our advert.  We also need to take a variety of images because within our digipak we need to include numerous images which we haven't previously used, this is because within the digipak we need to include exclusive images which will make it better and more superior to the standard jewell cd case. It also means that they are more engrossed in the digipak as they may get bored with repetition of the same images, where as a variety of images will mean that they keep on seeing images which they previously haven't seen and therefore enjoy it more.

The first image which we chose to use is a basic image of the artist showing just his shoulders and head - wearing a red "Bulls" snapback with plain, black sunglasses and a plain, black t-shirt. We chose to use this particular image because the fact that it is so basic and symmetrical means that it is very easier to use in a variety of ways and can be manipulated to be used in numerous ways which make it conventional to the dance genre and appealing to our target audience. We chose to take the image as a close up because it successfully shows the conventional use of the hat and sunglasses within the artists costume.
We plan to use this image as our focal image on our magazine advert and it will be positioned at the bottom of our advert in the foreground with a conventional use of bright colouring behind it. We plan to use it here because it clearly shows to the audience who the artist is which means that they recognise and credit the artist for the content. Using such a plain and basic image on our magazine advert will mean that it doesn't capture the audiences attention too much and instead they are drawn to more important elements such as the typography and conventional use of colours, this means that they know all the vital information on the album. This image is conventional to the dance genre because frequently artists use close ups to make it clear to the audience that they are the artist and therefore promote themselves as much as possible. It also means that fans of the artist will recognise him and therefore immediately be drawn to the advert. It also clearly shows the conventional use of the micro element of costume. This image will help the artist build a relationship with the audience as the image makes the artist relatable to the audience as the clothing worn within the image is clothing which will stereotypically be worn by our target audience as it is affordable, this means that the artist is presented as similar to them and not a individual who is far superior to them.

Another image which we plan to use is a mid shot of the artist wearing a red top, again a red hat and headphones. We chose to use this particular image because it shows the artist performing as he is wearing headphones, it also shows him wearing conventional clothing. We plan to use this image within our digipak as one of our exclusive images as it is a image which the audience would not have previously seen and will therefore entice them it is also a conventional to the genre as you can see the artist performing. This is a conventional image to the dance genre because frequently within digipaks a image of the artist is included this is because they are not singers or stereotypical performers therefore they have to make it evident that they are the artist and so include a image of them performing to achieve this. Again the costume worn is also conventional as he is wearing a cap, which is frequently worn by dance artists, a plain t-shirt which doesn't draw to much attention to the costume making him relatable and headphones which are a obvious convention of the dance genre as they are worn by all artists. I believe this is a good image as it is one which is extremely conventional to the dance genre and because it conforms with these conventions means it appeals to out target audience. I believe this image will successfully build a relationship with out audience because the fact that he is perfuming may result in them idolising him as they wish to follow his career path. His basic costume will also further this relationship as it is one which is affordable and may be worn by our target audience and they will therefore believe that he is more similar to them which makes them believe that it is easier to follow in the artists path.

We also plan to use a mid shot of the artist who will be looking away from the camera again wearing a black t-shit, black sunglasses and a red hat. We have taken this image as it will further the variety within out digipak, as it differs to the images of the artist looking directly at the camera. This use of variety presents the artist in a different way to the previous images as they presented him as more of a artist where as this image presents him as more of a normal person. We plan to use this image within our digipak as it will further the variety within our digipak and present out artist in a different way which will appeal to our target audience. This particular type of image is unconventional to the dance genre as the images are usually ones in which the artist is either performing or looking directly at the camera, despite this the costume which features within this image is conventional as again the artist is wearing a baseball cap and a plain t-shirt. I think this image will help build a relationship with our target audience because they view him in a more personal way as he appears as more emotional then previously presented in other pictures in which he appears more cold hearted.

To conclude we as a group found the process of taking these images rather easy as we knew what images we needed to create which would fit our magazine advert and digipak to make them conventional and appealing. Despite this i feel that we struggled to capture a variety of images as within the dance genre there is a limited number of conventional images and we didnt want to challenge these conventions and therefore was restricted to the variation in the images we captured. Overall i believe these images present out artist as a normal person and therefore relatable to the audience as he is wearing basic clothing throughout and is in plain locations. Within our planning process each member within our group created there own individual magazine advert and digipak and following this we used different elements from each individuals advert and digipak to create a final product which will have the best elements from each individual to hopefully produce the best and most conventional final product as possible.

  1. You have provided a sound analysis of your photoshoot, clearly explaining what your thoughts were when taking each picture and where you intended to use them and why.

    You need to:
    1) Think carefully about how the artist is represented in each picture and how this appeals to an audience
    2) Elaborate on why certain things will appeal to an audience more
    3) Analyse 2 more pictures (include pic for third paragraph and analyse one more image)
