Planning Artists Image - Miss Georgiou.

A artist representation is the image the performer uses to present himself within a music video. This is essential within a music video as it allows for the artist to form a bond with the audience and helps build a relationship between the two. Within a music video the artist can either presented in a way which makes him or her relatable to the audience, or contrastingly they can dress in a manner which allows for the audience to idolise the artist and aspire to be like them and dress like them. To make the artist relatable they could dress in a way on which their target audience may dress meaning they wear basic, affordable, everyday, casual clothing. This means that the audience may feel closer to the artist and may think that they could easily be like them and that they are not superior to themselves, this makes the artist appealing to the target audience as they want to follow a artist who is similar to themselves as they empathise with the artist and some-what see themselves within the artist. On the other hand the artist could be presented in a way which does present them in a much superior way as they could be wearing outrageous costumes. This mean that the audience idolise these artists as they cannot be dressed like that themselves therefore they enjoy seeing someone else presented in this manner. This method is stereotypically used within the pop genre and not really within my chosen genre of dance who usually are presented in a relatable casual way.


Our video is narrative based which means that there will be limited time in which the artist actually features as the majority of the video will be based around the narrative and the artist will only be seen performing during the conventional club scene. This means that there will be only a very limited amount of time within the video in which our audience can form a relationship with the artist therefore we plan to make our artist as relatable to the artist as possible. To do this our artist will be seen wearing headphones, a black t-shirt jeans and a hat; we chose this extremely basic outfit as the majority of our target audience will be able to relate to this outfit as they are all likely to have a plain black t-shirt and a plain pair of jeans. This means that the artist is presented as similar to the target audience and not different to them which suggests to the audience that he is down to earth and humble which are endearing characteristics for a music artist. The headphones are the only part of the costume which may not be relatable to the audience as not all of them will have headphones but despite this a large amount of the audience will have headphones which again makes the artist relatable but it also makes it clear to the audience that he is the artist because there is no other reason why he would be wearing the headphones unless he is performing and it differentiates between the artist and the audience within the video. The hat which will be seen being worn by the artist is another item of clothing which the audience are likely to relate to because our specific target audience are most likely to own this type of hat but it also gives the artist more style and presents him as trendy and cool. This choice of clothing is extremely conventional to the dance genre as the artist of the song within the dance genre can almost always be seen wearing very plain and boring clothing with headphones to show that he is performing. This is used frequently within the dance genre because the is rarely the focal point within the dance video and instead they want the focus to be on the concept or narrative of the video or the song itself, therefore they dress themselves in a basic manner to ensure that the audience is only focused on these factors and there attention is not distracted by the artists image.

To conclude this image which we have selected successfully allows for our target audience to form a relationship with the artist as it is relatable to our specific target audience. This particular image is especially appealing to our select target audience because it is a outfit which the majority of this specific audience will own, this means that the artist is presented as similar to themselves and therefore they are prompted to follow his work as they are interested in whether he is successful or not.
