Initial Group Planning Ideas - Miss Georgiou.

My group of four to create this music video is myself, Cara Gaffney and Daniel Armstrong . During our first meeting we discussed numerous things such as genres, artists and songs. We at first decided to use the dance genre as we believed it would be the easiest to create a video which would appeal to a specific target audience. We also chose this genres because the codes and conventions of this genre are very obvious therefore we straight away recognised how to conform to these conventions or contrastingly challenge them. Having understood which genre we plan to use we discussed numerous artists such as Calvin Harris, David Guetta and Sub Focus and researched into numerous of their most successful songs to have further knowledge of the lyrics of each song and how they can be used within our music video. Following this we then concluded on the song 'Turn Back Time' by Sub Focus as we all agreed that lyrics would be most successful within a video. Having found out which song we planned to use we then had to contact Sub Focus' record label which is RAM Records to ask for permission to use the song within our video. We then carried out further more in-depth research into our chosen genre of dance, our artist (Sub Focus) and the song itself. This research gave us inspiration and ideas for what we wanted to include in our music video which allowed us to consider the rough outline of our video.

Each member within our group underwent their own individual research into the dance music genre. This meant that we all gained much more knowledge on the genre and what the codes and conventions are and how we can use these to appeal to a specific audience. We then combined all of the knowledge we had gained individually to come up with a video which we collectively believed would be the best possible. Following this we decided to use both a male and female characters who live contrasting lifestyles and both want to turn back time to change their unhappy lives, we then finally planned for both these characters to feature in a club scene which would be the big finale to the video.

Within this process of planning and creating a music video we discovered that meetings and discussions between the members of our group are essential in ensuring that as a group we make the best possible music video. During these meetings and discussions we frequently talked about ideas each individual had on each individual element within the whole project. This meant that within each part of the process we was able to create the best possible product to the best of our ability as a group as we was able to consider each individuals ideas which meant that we was able to chose the best ideas.

As a group we worked effectively and efficiently together to ensure that we created the best video we could. This was because we knew that if we wanted to create a successful video than we would need to work well as a group to ensure that we all knew what we was aiming to create. This would help us within the filming process as each individual would know exactly what was needed to be filmed. Similarly to this it also helped us with the ancillary process as we knew what we wished to create to accompany our music video.

  1. This post demonstrates some evidence of group planning. It is clear to see that you have started to consider the style of a music video that you intend to create. However, you need to ensure that you also include evidence of the other planning sheets that you and your group have done, to demonstrate further planning techniques.

  2. The group meeting table that you have included helps to demonstrate further evidence of you and your group working well together.

However, you still need to include evidence of your group planning sheets.
